Ron swims

We work with Milford Care.

A care group with homes across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.

And within one of their homes we uncovered some storytelling gold dust in the form of Ron, one of the residents at Ashbourne Lodge.

A 74-year-old native of Orkney, an island off the north coast of Scotland, somewhat incredibly, Ron had never entered a body of water in his life – despite having spent much of his early years in and out of boats.

Ron said that back in the 1950s, the majority of Orkney fishermen couldn’t swim, even though they spent their life on the water.

In his later years though, Ron was determined to prove that age is no barrier when it comes to learning new things.

And with the help of his care team at Milford, Ron finally learnt to swim.

A brilliant story, we pitched this to our media contacts, which subsequently saw Ron’s swimming endeavours featured in the i Paper – both online and in print – following an interview with an i Paper journalist.

Care homes have a wealth of stories in them, and this one was far too good to pass up on – putting Ron’s fantastic can-do spirit in the limelight, but also shining a light on Milford’s care team at the same time.
