Reminiscence Express

We work with Aston Manor in Buckinghamshire.

A newly built care home, it’s keen to forge links with its local community as it becomes increasingly established.

And with a small, but growing number of residents living there, we also wanted to help foster their ties with the community too.

The home interiors are really lovely, and during a show round we noticed a section of seating designed to resemble a train carriage.

Recognising its potential as a great location for filming content, we built out an idea that would show it off.

Reminiscence therapy is a huge part of care in later life, so we looked to bring to life the area with the “Reminiscence Express”.

This sees residents sit down and chat about their travel memories, while the home’s kitchen team cook special meals to create a sensory experience, as if they’re back on their travels.

Sending our video team along to capture visual content, we created a trailer featuring Vic and Sheila, current residents in the home, chatting to Justyn the Wellbeing Activities Manager.

As part of this, we also put a shout out for interesting individuals in the surrounding community to come along and join residents to chat through their own memories and experiences – helping to forge those local links as part of a series.

Providing great content for the home’s social channels, we also shared the story with the media, which secured a feature in the Bucks Herald, while the BBC are set to visit the home next week. And PA Media, the former Press Association, also requested extra footage to package the story up for its feel-good video output.

With the Reminiscence Express having only just set off, we’re hoping it’ll continue to gain momentum in the coming weeks and months as it opens up to others in the community.

And that’s our Pic of the Week!
