106 Years in the Making

The great thing about working with care homes is the people in them.

And one of our clients, Church Farm Care, had some PR gold in the form of Betty Wherry.

With her 106th birthday coming up – something definitely worth celebrating – we also found out a little about her background.

It emerged she’d been a gilder by trade, working for Royal Crown Derby – with a 50-year career that included working on the coronations of Edward VIII and George VI.

We recognised immediately that the rich royal connection would appeal to press, and highlighting it as part of her birthday celebrations produced a flurry of media coverage.

This saw the BBC visit the home to speak to Betty, which resulted in a BBC News online article, with further shoutouts on the BBC Nottingham and BBC Derby Facebook pages.

There was also national media coverage via GB News and iNews in its print edition, while UniLad shared Betty’s sage advice around longevity on its social channels.

The story was covered across key regional titles, such as Derbyshire Live, Nottinghamshire Live, the Derby Telegraph and the Nottingham Post.

With 18 pieces of media coverage on this story alone, it was a fantastic haul to celebrate Betty’s fantastic longevity – with all of the media pieces highlighting Church Farm Care’s care provision alongside Betty’s story.

And that’s our Pic of the Week!
