Ramping up Christmas: The 2022 John Lewis Christmas advert is here!

November 12th 2022 By Amy Millyard 1 minute read

Forget advent calendars, the real countdown to Christmas begins when a certain advert appears on our television screens, and no I’m not talking about the Coca-Cola truck.

With its famous reputation and eagerly awaiting public, UK department store, John Lewis has captured the nation’s hearts (and tears) with its 2022 advert titled ‘The Beginner’. Released last week, the advert follows an eager man on his skateboarding journey. Via a bumpy ride, a ring of a doorbell and an acoustic twist on a classic song, the advert lovingly shines a light on fostering in the UK.

Shockingly, more than 108,000 children and young people in the UK will be in care this Christmas, they will feel isolated and forgotten and many of them won’t even see anyone – with changing this the core message behind John Lewis’ efforts. Partnering with its key charity partners Action for Children and Who Cares? Scotland, it wanted to change lives and minds this Christmas by representing these children and this important family dynamic on the screen.

So what is John Lewis doing to help? Not just seeking favourable headlines, it’s making a long-term commitment to support the futures of young people from care through its ‘Building Happier Futures’ fund. Click here to donate and find out more.

So whether you’re a fan of a heart-warming story, Buddy the Elf or Alison Hammond as a Christmas countess, this year’s Christmas adverts look like ones to remember (until next year when something better comes out, of course) – with John Lewis, yet again, blazing a trail.
