Promoting your business through TikTok

Over the past few years, TikTok has rapidly grown to become one of the most popular social media platforms in the world.

And while plenty of people out there are still dismissive of its potential, it’s now firmly established as one of the major platforms (even if suspicions abound about its security).

Initially known for short-form videos (generally dance challenges and funny skits), TikTok has evolved over time, and is now suitable for all sorts of businesses looking to reach new audiences.

TikTok has become particularly good for independent businesses to market themselves and build a following as it offers opportunity to get ahead of the big players. Here's why:

Growing users
With more and more people signing up, TikTok has a rapidly growing user base. With an average 1 billion monthly users, it presents a huge opportunity for businesses to reach new audiences and potential customers – spanning a broad demographic. It isn’t just Gen Zers on the platform. 

Audience engagement
TikTok’s users are highly engaged. Unlike other platforms where users often scroll through their feed without engaging with content, TikTok's users are much more likely to watch, like, and share videos (with the forward function making it particularly easy). This all means that good, well-thought-out videos are more likely to be seen by a large audience.

Viral potential
One of the most unique aspects of TikTok is its "For You" page, which showcases videos the platform's algorithm thinks users will enjoy. If featured on the "For You" page, a video can quickly go viral, with the potential to be seen by millions of people. And it’s this aspect that presents a huge opportunity for independent businesses to get their products or services in front of a massive audience – without having to spend a lot of money on advertising or stump up the budgets of the household names.

Creativity
TikTok is all about creativity, which gives businesses the chance to showcase products or services in fun and engaging ways. From funny edits, to jumping on the latest trends, you can remove the stuffiness of a brand and make yours look fun, approachable and appealing to younger generations (and even older, tbh!).

It’s cheap
Finally, one of the most appealing aspects of TikTok is that you only need a smartphone and some creativity to start seeing results. You don’t need to splurge on Facebook Ads to get seen, which makes it accessible for businesses of all sizes and budgets.

TikTok, then, has become a valuable platform for businesses to promote themselves and reach new audiences. With an ever growing user base (Chinese spyware aside), highly engaged audience, a greater chance to go viral, creativity in abundance, and low costs, TikTok offers a lot of opportunity for brands of all shapes and sizes. So if you’re not TikToking yet, you should really look at having a go.
