Hotel Relaunch

The Need

Cotswold House Hotel is an award-winning luxury hotel and spa located in the heart of Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire.

Throughout the summer of 2016, the hotel underwent a significant £1 million restoration with a view to attract not only visitors from further afield but also local residents. Over the years the number of local residents visiting the hotel had drastically reduced and this was something Cotswold House Hotel hoped the refurbishment would change.

Chipping Campden is a popular tourist market town in the heart of the Cotswolds and therefore has plenty of local competition. Cotswold House Hotel hoped the refurbishment would help it stand out in the crowded market of Chipping Campden, and ensure it is always regarded as top of the list for hotels in the area.

The hotels refurbishment included a full renovation of its restaurant, bistro and bedrooms. The hotel also added a new Tea Room element to its restaurant, adding a huge selection of specialist teas to its offering, as well as a variety of sandwiches and scones.

The new restaurant and bistro were also completely rebranded and new menus were created. The bistro focuses on tapas style snacks and the restaurant offers guests a top-quality dining experience.

The Solution

With all this in mind, Pic PR was brought on board to host an official re-opening of the hotel, and to raise awareness of the newly refurbished venue to local residents, previous hotel guests and the press. The aim of the event was to create a real buzz around the refurbishment and simply get people talking about, and visiting the hotel.

Pic PR pulled together a comprehensive invite list which focused on locals, previous guests and press. Personalised invites were sent out individually, and then followed up by a call to check their attendance.

The event included a variety of aspects highlighting the hotel’s offering. On arrival, guests were welcomed with champagne and shown into the newly refurbished restaurant where a selection of afternoon tea was served. There were tapas snacks served in the Bistro with a live band to entertain the guests throughout the evening.

Pic PR also connected with local business, Cotswold Distillery, which set up a pop up gin bar for guests to sample and purchase its popular gin.

Throughout the night, hotel staff were offering tours of the venue including the newly refurbished bedrooms, the restaurant, Bistro and the hotel’s spa.

All guests left with a goody bag, which contained Cotswold Distillery vouchers, Decleor Spa Products, a Cotswold House newspaper, signature Cotswold House cookies and further information on the hotel.

Pic PR’s photography team were at the event documenting the evening and the social team were giving live updates on Facebook and Twitter.

The Results

  • The launch event was a huge success with over 100 guests in attendance
  • Positive feedback from a local resident: “I’ve lived in the area for over 10 years but I stopped visiting Cotswold House because it became fairly outdated. The refurbishment has given the hotel a real lift and I’ll definitely be recommending it to my friends and family.”
  • Since the launch, Cotswold House Hotel has continuously appeared in major national and regional press (The Telegraph, The Times, The Mirror, The Caterer, Crumbs, Cotswold Life, Cotswold Living, Gloucestershire Echo) – reaching out to those looking for a Cotswold break and sharing the news about the refurbishment
  • As a result of the successful event, Pic PR was then brought on to manage Cotswold House Hotels’ video and photography needs, creating a bank of photography and video that can be used on social media, the website and given to press.
