Building Relationships

The Need

Having undergone a £3m restoration, Clevedon Hall in North Somerset re-launched itself as an exclusive wedding and events venue, complete with 25 rooms. The 150-year-old Victorian building had, over the years, been previously used as everything from a private girls’ school to a call centre. The McCarthy family purchased the venue in 1991 to use as business headquarters, but once the last tenant moved out four years ago, the family thought long and hard about its future. Inspired by a number of letters they had received over the years from couples asking to use Clevedon Hall as a wedding venue, the family discovered the desire was there and set about making the transition.

With no former experience in the hospitality world, they approached Pic PR to help with the re-launch and promote the newly branded venue among the media, with a particular focus on weddings. It was important for the McCarthy family to start getting a return on their investment as soon as possible, so it was crucial that we got journalists to the venue and talking about it. In addition, as well as a launch event, Pic PR had to develop a long-term comms campaign that cemented Clevedon Hall’s reputation as an exclusive venue.

The Solution

Pic PR organised the launch event and pulled together an extensive invite list including key journalists, local VIPS and big business players as well as local consumers. The Hall was officially opened by Dr Liam Fox MP.

Following the launch, we continue to engage with journalists, hosting regular press trips and issuing press releases, containing the latest news about Clevedon Hall. In addition, we ensure the venue is at the forefront of journalists’ minds when it comes to being experts in the wedding and events sector by keeping up to date of any potential feature opportunities that Clevedon can get involved with.

The Results

  • The launch event generated nearly 50 pieces of coverage across a range of sectors including wedding press, business press, as well as national and local press (titles included Wedding Ideas Magazine, Hotel Owner, The Caterer, the Daily Mirror and the Bristol Post)
  • The launch event was attended by over 150 people, including Dr Liam Fox MP
  • Since Pic PR began working with Clevedon Hall, there has been a constant increase in wedding bookings, with confirmations already in place for as far ahead as 2018
